Brachioplasty

Arm lift is the procedure to treat saggy upper arms, a condition sometimes referred to as “bingo wings” or “bat wings”, and resulting from major weight loss or simply the natural effects of aging.

  • Excess fat is removed by liposuction or excised, underlying tissues tightened and sutured, and excess skin is trimmed, leaving a vertical scar on the inside of the arm. Thorough information on the procedure, recovery, and predictable result, will be given during the prior consultation.
  • Prior to surgery, laboratory testing or a medical evaluation is routinely requested.
  • The operation is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. A prior liposuction is conducted to remove excess fat. Then the plastic surgeon proceeds with making an incision running from the underarm to as far as the elbow, depending on the extent of the correction. Then, underlying supportive tissues are tightened and reshaped. Finally the skin is adjusted and redraped over the arm, and sewn with dissolvable stitches. An elastic dressing is put in place for several days.
